Bharatanatyam is a major form of Indian classical dance that originated in Tamil Nadu. It is one of the eight widely recognised Indian classical dance forms, and expresses South Indian religious themes and spiritual ideas.
Carnatic music was written to be sung, but the voice acts as an instrument, recreating, in a way, the sound of the veena—a stringed instrument typically used in Indian classical music.
The Mridangam is an Indian percussion of ancient origin. It is the primary rhythmic accompaniment in a Carnatic music ensemble. During a performance the Mridangam normally plays with a singer or dancer.
